Adam Yauch, “MCA” and cofounder of the Beastie Boys passed away at age 47 on the morning of Friday May 4. The official statement from the Beastie Boys reads:
“It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer.”
The Beastie Boys were a heavily creative and utlimately legendary rap group, first introduced to me by my father while growing up. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this past April and are well deserving of the recognition. If you aren’t familiar with their work I would definitely encourage you to get familiar. I’ve posted a couple of their more memorable songs below. Enjoy!
