On the night of Monday, February 20th, DC nightlife came in with a major bang. Marking the kickoff of DC Fashion Week, Alexis and I jumped on the metro to be a part of all the excitement. But I cannot say that the night began so exciting.
After arriving at 641 D Street, dressed to impress, we were met at the door with a sign stating that the 16th Fashion Show was SOLD OUT. Let me just ask, if the event was FREE Admission and No RSVP, wouldn’t the event not sell out? But 30 minutes later, we would understand after finally entering. The Woolly Mammoth Theatre was FiLLED in every corner with cameras flashing and all the new eco fashion trends being absorbed. From the models to supporters of fashion, everyone was dressed to the T.
“We want to represent all walks of life,” said former model and Host of DCFW, Ean Williams. Above Standard Issue had the pleasure of talk to Mr. Williams after the show. Goals for the future of DCFW, Williams stated, “We want to be the United Nations of fashion,” and from just the first night, DC fashion scene is doing just that.
Make sure to watch the full interview of Williams’ involvement in the fashion industry and the work behind making DCFW possible. Also, if from the DC area or wherever, come show your support to the city that dresses for “purpose” in the morning but at night, high-top fashion is the norm.
